W/B 31st October 2022

We have had a brilliant first week back after half term and got stuck straight back into school and our new topic ‘Exploring Autumn’. We had the best time on our Autumn walk collecting different signs of Autumn such as; leaves, berries, twigs and flowers. We also used our senses to feel the wind, hear the birds and see the fungi. We made Autumn walk maps with our collections and put them on display in the classroom.

We have loved exploring our classroom provision this week. We have had fun painting fireworks, writing the noises that fireworks make, exploring pinecones, playing in leaves and playing with conkers in the sand. In Literacy this week we have read the story ‘Autumn’ this book didn’t have words and we had to describe the pictures with our talk partners. We used lots of describing words to describe each picture. In Maths this week we have looked at exploring the numbers 1,2, and 3 and have split the numbers using 5 frames, cubes and counters, looking closely at what numbers making other numbers.

Next week we will continue with Exploring Autumn and will be reading the story ‘Pumpkin Soup’.

Week Beginning: 10th October 2022

It has been another wonderful week in the Ladybirds classroom. We have really enjoyed the story of ‘Cinderella’. On the creative table we have been busy using trays of paint and glitter designing Cinderella’s glass slipper, dress, and the prince’s suit, we have used scissors to make the pumpkin that turns into a carriage in Cinderella. On the fine motor table, we have used scissors to cut out the story of Cinderella and place the pictures we have cut into the correct order of the story, and in the story box we used picture cards to re tell the story. In the sand and water trays we explored cubes and Lego to build the castle in Cinderella and practice 1 more 1 less (which is what we have been learning in Maths)

In maths we have been learning 1 more 1 less, we used cubes to work out 1 more 1 less, we have rolled the dice and said if the number was more or less than the number previously and have played snap to match the numbers and worked out if the numbers were more or less.

We are working so hard in Phonics. Practicing saying, recognising, and writing our sounds. We are using Fred to help us blend the sounds we know to read words.

We finished the week by learning The Nativity that we will be rehearsing after half term, the children listened to the songs that we will be singing and learned what parts they will be playing in The Nativity, they are all super excited!

After half term we will be sharing the story of Autumn by Gerda Muller.
